Cory Burns Ingnites Elite 2 Field at Fitchburg / Longjo Stage Race

2006 Fitchburg Podium 3

The Elite / Espoir team traveled to Fitchburg, MA to compete in the longstanding and very demanding Fitchburg / Longjo Stage Race, 6/29 to 7/2. We had four very good riders coming off some impressive outings at the recently completed Commerce Bank Triple Crown Elite 1/2 events in Lancaster and Reading, PA. entered this year. The team consisted of Adrian Gerrits, Jon Royal, Glenn Murray and Tucker Brown.

Warming UpWe were also and happily joined by Cory Burns, from Watertown, NY for this event and his talents were soon apparant from the first stage. While usually seen in his University of New Hampshire collegiate team colors, Cory happily doned the TSV uniform and proceeded to win not only the opening 6.2 mile Best Western Royal Plaza Time Trial but then on the next day, followed it up with a win in the 62 mile Fitchburg State College Circuit Race. The team supported him throughout the event, covering all the early moves and keeping Cory safe within the fast moving peloton. When it came time for the final circuit Adrian Gerrits and Glenn Murray wound up the last lap and brought Cory to the bottom of the final finishing hill. Going head to head with Team Allaince Environmental's Ramon Benitez, Burns came out on top and took the second win in as many days.

Tomorrow the team will defend the leaders orange jersey in the very tough and long 92 mile Wachusett Mountain Road Race. I hope to have more good news to write in the next few days. Stay tuned.
