Tri-State Velo Riders to Compete in Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic

Tommy and Dave

Two Tri-State Velo elite team riders have been tapped to race the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic on June 2nd. Tommy Schubert and Dave Casale will both be competing in the UCI 1.2 event, completing 120 miles through Fairmount Park, Manayunk, and Lemon Hill, with the race culminating on the Wall for the first time in its history. Both riders are ecstatic to be competing America's biggest one day race, that just so happens to take place in our home city. Both riders would like to thank Ron Ruggiero, the club sponsors, and the club members themselves, for their never ending support in pursuit of their cycling dreams.

Tommy began racing with TSV in 2009 as a 16 year old Cat 5. He progressed well in categorized and junior races, upgrading one category a year until 2012 when he received his final upgrade to Cat 1. Along the way he has won numerous races, competed nationally and internationally, and is becoming one of the nation's top collegiate riders as a scholarship athlete at Cumberland University, where he is studying mathematics.  Tommy is a fantastic all-around rider, with skills suited to a variety of events including track, criterium, and time trials.

Dave's career with TSV began in 2001 as a 16 year old as well, but Dave put racing aside to pursue other sports during high school, including track and field. He returned to competitive road racing in 2009 during his senior year at Drexel University, to join his girlfriend who was looking to get into the sport for the first time. He was able to upgrade one category each season until 2012, when he also received his final upgrade points to Cat 1. Dave has been acting as Tri-State Velo's elite team manager, helping to develop younger riders while continuing to improve his own performances along the way. He is a full time mechanical engineer working in the defense industry, and can be found training during his commutes from South Jersey to Northeast Philadelphia, regardless of the weather.

Tommy will be guest riding for U23 domestic elite team D3Devo p/b Airgas, while Dave will be guest riding with local domestic elite team Breakawaybikes.com p/b Vie 13. Tommy has shown fantastic form through the collegiate season, placing 8th at collegiate nationals in the criterium event, and has garnered the attention of several U23 teams during the early portions of the season after numerous top 10 results in collegiate and categorized racing. D3Devo is in its inaugural year, competing nationally throughout the season while attending events such as the Sea Otter Classic and the entirety of the USA Crits Series, where they are a featured team. Breakawaybikes.com p/b Vie13 is a Philadelphia based domestic elite team in its second year, drawing largely on homegrown collegiate riders for its roster. The team's riders include 2 PA BAR series champions, the current PA TT Champion, and the 2011 Master's Points Race World Champion. The team is expanding its horizon's this season, achieving two top 20 results in National Criterium Calendar events in May, and is looking to make an impact at Elite Nationals in July.

So please join us in supporting our riders as they take on the biggest challenge of their cycling careers, THE PHILLY PRO RACE!
